Social marketing is a powerful tool for messaging, engaging, and educating key stakeholders, including youth, school staff members, families, and community members. The strategic employment of a variety of social marketing strategies, including but not limited to those communicated through social media channels, can expand the reach of Project AWARE grantees, engage diverse consumers, and increase awareness of and access to state and local services. By engaging in the process of developing a Social Marketing Plan of Operation (SMPO)—a social marketing roadmap—state and local education agencies consider critical questions that guide effective social marketing efforts and lead to the achievement of grant-related goals. This webinar describes seven phases of SMPO development; the critical questions that should guide grantees’ social marketing efforts are presented in each phase. An example of an SMPO as well as a blank template for use by grantees is also provided.

These webinars are supported by the SAMHSA Now Is The Time Technical Assistance (NITT-TA) Center.
